Ingredients

Scale

Brussels Sprouts

  • 1 lb fresh Brussels sprouts, halved or quartered
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

General Tso’s Sauce

  • 2 tbsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (natural)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (natural)
  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes
  • 1/4 tsp natural gelling agent

Garnishes

  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1 tbsp crushed roasted peanuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Brussels Sprouts: Wash the Brussels sprouts thoroughly, trim off the stem ends, and cut them in halves or quarters depending on their size for even cooking and crispiness.
  2. Roast Until Crispy: Toss the Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, and garlic powder, then spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Roast in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 20 to 25 minutes, turning halfway through to achieve golden brown and crispy edges.
  3. Prepare the Tangy General Tso’s Sauce: While roasting, whisk together vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), apple cider vinegar, soy sauce (natural), maple syrup (natural), red chili flakes, and natural gelling agent in a small saucepan. Heat gently, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
  4. Toss the Sprouts in Sauce: Transfer the roasted Brussels sprouts to a large bowl, pour the warm sauce over them, and toss gently to coat evenly. The sticky sauce will cling beautifully to the crispy sprouts.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Finish with freshly sliced green onions and optionally sprinkle toasted sesame seeds or crushed roasted peanuts for added flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use fresh, firm Brussels sprouts for the best texture and flavor.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan to allow proper crisping instead of steaming.
  • Adjust the amount of natural gelling agent to control sauce thickness according to your preference.
  • Turn Brussels sprouts halfway during roasting to ensure even browning and caramelization.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor experience.
