Description

The Classic Tuna Melt is a cozy, comforting sandwich combining creamy tuna salad, melty plant-based cheese, and smoky turkey bacon for a satisfying and easy meal. Perfect for lunch or dinner, this recipe is quick to prepare and customizable to suit different tastes and dietary preferences.

Ingredients

Scale

Tuna Salad

  • 1 can tuna in water, drained
  • 2 tablespoons natural mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon natural Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons fresh celery, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Sandwich Components

  • 2 slices whole grain bread
  • 1 slice plant-based cheese
  • 3 slices smoked turkey bacon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tuna Salad: Drain the canned tuna thoroughly and flake it gently into a bowl. Add natural mayonnaise, natural Dijon mustard, finely chopped celery and red onion. Season with salt, black pepper, and a splash of apple cider vinegar. Mix lightly to maintain a chunky texture.
  2. Cook the Smoked Turkey Bacon: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the smoked turkey bacon until crispy and golden. Transfer to paper towels to drain excess oil.
  3. Assemble the Sandwich: Place two slices of whole grain bread on a cutting board. Evenly spread the prepared tuna salad over one slice. Top with crispy smoked turkey bacon pieces and then place the plant-based cheese slice on top. Cover with the second bread slice.
  4. Toast to Perfection: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich inside and cook until the bread is golden and crisp, pressing down slightly with a spatula. Carefully flip and toast the other side until the plant-based cheese is melted and gooey.
  5. Serve Warm: Remove from skillet and let the sandwich rest for a minute before slicing to allow it to set and stay warm.

Notes

  • Drain tuna thoroughly to prevent soggy sandwich.
  • Toast on medium-low heat to melt cheese slowly without burning the bread.
  • Use fresh, hearty bread to hold the filling well.
  • Add fresh parsley or dill for an aromatic flavor boost.
  • Use a light splash of apple cider vinegar to brighten flavors without overpowering.
