Description

Pretzel Bites are soft, chewy snacks with a golden-brown crust and tender inside, perfect for sharing or enjoying as a cozy treat. Paired with a creamy, plant-based cheese dip (natural), they create a flavorful and memorable bite-time favorite suitable for all occasions.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 40°C)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)

Baking Soda Bath

  • 10 cups water
  • 2/3 cup baking soda

Topping & Finishing

  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
  • Plant-based butter (natural), melted, for brushing

Dip

  • Plant-based cheese dip (natural)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Begin by activating the instant yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar to create a bubbly, frothy mixture. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar. Then, pour the yeast mixture into the dry ingredients along with vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural) and mix until a sticky dough forms.
  2. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead vigorously for about 8 to 10 minutes to develop gluten for chewy texture. Once smooth and elastic, place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise for approximately 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  3. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Soda Bath: While the dough rises, bring a large pot of water to a boil and stir in the baking soda carefully. Preheat your oven to 220°C (428°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Shape and Dip the Bites: Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into small, bite-sized pieces. Roll each into a ball and briefly dip them in the boiling baking soda water for about 20 seconds. Using a slotted spoon, remove the bites and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spaced slightly apart.
  5. Bake and Finish: Sprinkle the Pretzel Bites with coarse sea salt and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown and crispy outside. Immediately brush with melted plant-based butter (natural) for extra flavor and shine. Serve warm alongside the plant-based cheese dip (natural).

Notes

  • Use lukewarm water (about 40°C) to activate yeast correctly without killing it.
  • Do not skip the baking soda bath; it is essential for the pretzels’ signature crust.
  • Allow dough enough time to rise for lighter, airy bites.
  • Brushing with plant-based butter adds richness and helps the salt adhere well.
  • Serve fresh and warm for the best texture and flavor.
